 "Do we have tomorrow?"

1939 was months away from the beginning of World War II, a saw a time of dramatic upheaval for the whole world.

Looking through some old family photographs dated 1939 I found some images from both sides of the war. Both sides did their duty, one had to go off to fight for their country and the side that stayed at home. It's not difficult to imagine the pain endured by couples as war took them away from each other. In the photograph where they are together how do we know that they had tomorrow? Was this the last time they would see each other?

Clearly there was a sense of humour there because they're both wearing the same uniform, even though it obviously doesn't fit one of them properly. There was clearly a bit of blitz spirit and english stiff upper lip going on there. I think it's because they didn't know that they had tomorrow that they were laughing during their 'today'.
