 In the gallery

I went to see an exhibition by one of my favourite artists this month: Bridget Riley. Her artwork is so alluring and mesmerising I quickly noticed how people were really entranced, taking it in and really thinking about what they were seeing, and then what they were seeing again, and then it changing and seeing it again!

Bridget Riley is a master of optical art, 'internationally renowned for her abstract paintings which explore sensation and the way in which we see.' (taken from the Hayward Gallery guide to the exhibition). She was born in 1931 so she has a lot of material to exhibit spanning her artist's working life from 1947-2019.

I enjoy her work immensely for many reasons, especially the colour and pattern (that seems to ineract with the viewer!). Never a dull moment here, a real treat to all. I think that is why so many people wanted to record what they were seeing on their phones!
